Why I am committed to cross border – in 2011 my mom and dad were essentially fired by their US financial advisor…and I was their financial advisor! I had to tell them to transfer or liquidate their IRAs because the firm I was at wasn't registered to work with Canadian residents. In those days, finding a Canadian firm that could take on an IRA was nearly impossible and liquidating meant excessive tax, penalties and losing the tax deferral for years to come. Thankfully, I was able to move my advisory practice to Raymond James Ltd., with the mandate to create the cross border platform, Raymond James USA Ltd. Job 1 was to build the platform and Job 2 was to look after Mom and Dad! Seeing the potential damage within my own family has given me the drive to make cross border my lives work. I am here to serve and anxious to help.
